No one ever seems to care when something is getting butchered in the name of the restrictive and regressive views of an overpowered minority, but when it affects something they care about.. Well, don’t say we didn’t warn you.

If something is ACTUALLY in questionable taste, like a camera constantly zooming in on the asscracks of only the female characters in a game, then an argument can be made that it is unnecessary and childish. Either removing it or adding copious male sexualization shows an effort to treat female characters with the same respect as male characters. An effort to be fair and an acknowledgment that the audience is not made up entirely of straight men with simplistic, stunted and childish libidos.

There is absolutely no comparison you can draw between that and what the UK has done to Steven Universe. Pearl and Rose’s interactions are 100% G-rated, innocent and in no way fetishistic or explicit. They are being trimmed solely because they imply romance between two characters of the same gender. They are being treated like sexual content, which is homophobic and demeaning.

If these scenes actually were as crass and sexually pandering as shit like Quiet or Rainbow Mika then they would be homophobic and demeaning in themselves. They’d be yet another example of lesbians only inserted into something to titillate men and it would be completely fair to cut down on that. The presence of gay characters and the sexualization of characters are completely fucking unrelated things. I can’t believe I even have to explain that to anyone old enough to be on tumblr.
